In a volatile session, Lok Sabha witnessed uproar as the ethics report on cash-for-query accusations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was presented, suggesting her expulsion. The uproar led to adjournment till 2 pm, igniting fierce confrontations between the ruling BJP and opposition.
For Moitra's expulsion, the House's approval of the committee's report is necessary. It brands her actions "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal".
Amidst the chaos, Moitra's confident entrance into Parliament was marked by strong words. "Maa Durga has come! Now we will see... when destruction comes, conscience dies first," she told reporters.
The BJP, prepared for the showdown, issued a three-line whip to its MPs, demanding their presence and alignment with the party's stance.
Originally slated for Monday's tabling, the opposition vows to demand a thorough discussion once the report is presented. Allegations against Moitra involve taking bribes and surrendering parliamentary log-in credentials, which she termed a common practice.
The charges prompted furious BJP protests, calling for an investigation. The Ethics Committee concluded with a 6:4 vote favoring expulsion, sparking intense parliamentary clashes.
